Karnataka State Open University – Overview
KSOU was established on 1st June 1996 as the eighth Open University in the country.
It enjoys a unique privilege of a long and rich experience in the field of distance
education as it was started as institute of Correspondence under Mysore University.
It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as well as Common
Wealth Universities Association and is a recognized member university of Distance
Education Council (DEC), Ministry of HRD and Government of India. KSOU offers a
unique and challenging mode of university education for people who were denied of
it earlier for various reasons and for those who are working, thus able to devote
only time partially for furthering their carriers. This has become very useful for
people in far-flung areas where there are no UG and PG programs and for people who
could not get into the regular scheme and also for elders who love to educate themselves,
just for learning sake.
